Um, can we all just please pause and halt all crazy Monday activities to admire Camilla Belle's perfect eyebrows?!
When I say that this is exactly how I want mine to look, I mean that. They're so thick! I feel like I've been trying to get mine to grow out like this since college to no avail. I mean, I'm glad that I even have eyebrows, but I long for them to look like this. Sigh.
Oh, and since we're on the subject of her brows, we might as well discuss this super cute and chic pimento green frock she rocked on the red carpet Sunday. LOVE!
What do you think of Camilla's eyebrows, Glamazons? Anyone else want theirs to look like this, too? Any tips or tricks you'd like to offer?! Let's exchange beauty notes in the comments section below.
If there's one brand that practically screams holiday and evokes all those warm memories of opening toys underneath the Christmas tree as a child, drinking hot chocolate and other nauseatingly happy things that you may have done it's definitely Philosophy. In fact, most of the faces on the packaging for their holiday gift sets are childhood photos taken of the employees at the company. (Yes, for those of you like me that always wondered if those children were actual real people, they are!) So, above is like one of the only childhood pics of me you'll ever see in life of myself and fellow dance star Elizabeth right before a dance recital. Pretty cute, right?!
A couple of weeks ago (alright, it was really like months ago..where does the time go?!) I attended their holiday beauty blogger event and it was like stepping into an oasis of the most wonderful smells. This brand prides themselves on the ability to actually bottle the best scents in America. I mean, just one whiff alone of their gingerbread man scent is all you'll ever really need to make you happy with life. Did I mention that these are bath and body products that I'm talking about?! Yes, you can actually scent your self in these smells. AM-AZE!
Alright, so now that you get more of a mental picture as to what I'm talking about, let me go ahead and outline my fave products from the holiday collection for you:
Philosophy under the mistletoe lip gloss set
Women of all ages would be a fool not to love this set of super delicious (and extra glossy!) lip shades. Not only do they taste delicious (sweet, but not like that ingratiatingly sweet that hurts your teeth..yuck..) but they also provide the perfect sheer shade of color to lips. Each works great worn alone or over your fave shade of lipstick. (I can't get enough of that peppermint bark shade!)
Price: $20
Philosophy gingerbread girl foaming bubble bath & shower gel
OMG. I can't even begin to tell you Glamazons how much I love this stuff! Like, I think I just may never leave and continue to wash my body/bathe in it year round! The name says it all (it really does smell like a ginger bread cookie) but unlike the ginger bread man scent in the collection, this one smells lighter and more girly. I know no other way to describe it than just that way...like if I could throw fragrance waves of this stuff your way through the computer screen I totally would hahaha.
Price: $16
Of course, there are tons more gift sets and scents from this line (other faves of mine include the snow angel shampoo, shower gel & bubble bath as well as the eternal grace fragrance layering collection) so you'll have to get to their site asap to see them all (click here). As you can see, most of these are priced $20 or less so they're the perfect gifts for employees and other distant relatives that you may not want to spend tons of money on but want to gift them with something nice.
As the old saying goes, if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it!
MAC Cosmetics continues their relationship with our fave pop singer Lady Gaga by signing her on for another year as a Viva Glam spokeswoman. The first Gaga/MAC collabo began with her and singer Cyndi Lauper and featured light pink and coral lipsticks. The brand later launched matching Lipglasses (love my Cyndi shade!) and managed to collectively raise over $32 million for the MAC AIDS Fundcementing it in Viva Glam history as the most lucrative the campaign has ever seen.
For the 2011 campaign, we'll see Gaga in her very own Viva Glam campaign. Above is a sneak peek at one of her ads in which I personally think she looks gorge! Love the all the pearls and diamonds she's holding and the ethereal light sorrounding her. Hmmm...I wonder if this means the matching lipstick shade will be a natural, pearlescent shade like the one she's sporting?
What do you think of Gaga's look in the ad, Glamazons? And are you equally as excited as I am to get your hands on the new lip shade?!
Hey Glamazons! I know we just gave you the scoop on Carol's Daughter with the Chrisette Michelle interview (isn't she the cutest?!), but I feel that it's my beauty duty to also let you know that Mary J. Bligewill be back on HSN tonight. (Get excited!)
In case you've been hiding out on an island somewhere and don't know anything about this, Mary J. Blige collaborated with Carol's Daughter to create her own signature fragrance, My Life. In what some said is a crazy move (because how do you sell something no one can smell?!), she teamed up with the good folks down at HSN to sell My Life on television and the rest is history! Not only did she break records by selling more than 72,000 bottles (that's $3 million in sales!) but she also donated $1 from each sell to the nonprofit organization she shares with Steve Stoute called Foundation For The Advancement of Women Now (FFAWN).
Wowza! Luckily, I had the opportunity to fly down to HSN (it's located in Tampa, FL..that's a pic of Mary and I on-set above) interview and watch the songtress in action on-set. It was quite amazing!
Although I won't be on-set with her this time (insert sad face here) I did have the opportunity to sit and chat with Mary over lunch Tuesday afternoon about her fragrance, life and other fun stuff. She eagerly mentioned that this time around she will be selling My Life gift sets that will consist of the fragrance, body lotion and shower gel. She also plans to have a couple of surprise celeb call-ins (last time Oprah called in and I thought I was going to pass out..literally!)
Mary will kick off selling again today at midnight and continue segments into tomorrow (12/10) during the following times:
-1 a.m.
-12 p.m.
-2 p.m.
-4 p.m.
-9 p.m.
-10 p.m.
With every purchase made, $1 will be donated to FFAWN. Be sure to tune in and support Mary, Glamazons! I can't even begin to tell you what an amazing and inspirational woman she is! For more deets, visit the Carol's Daughter Facebook page.
It's rare that you meet a Glamazon who is brilliant, talented and beautiful all in one. Chrisette Michele and Carol's Daughter owner, Lisa Price, are all that and more. I had the privilege of meeting and interviewing them both at an in-store event at the Carol's Daughter event in Harlem. Days like that are why I love this city!
Even though I was beyond exhausted from a whirlwind holiday schedule, I took the train from my job on Wall Street uptown to one of my favorite places: 125th street in Harlem. The legendary street which is always bustling with people of all ages also houses the first Carol's Daughter boutique. On this particular Monday, the block was lined with Chrisette Michele fans eager to meet their favorite soul singer.
They weren't alone. I was just as excited to sit down with Chrisette as she prepared for the release of her latest album, Let Freedom Reign. We had met once before at Fashion Rocks around the time I started this blog and a lot has changed since then.
For one, she ditched the long weave for a gorgeous short natural cut, and her musical content has taken a new direction as well. She tells me all about it in the video below. Check it out!
I was lucky enough to chat with the woman behind those glamazing products Chrisette speaks of: Lisa Price.
A beauty expert and entrepreneur, Price gave me all the secrets behind her upcoming Carol's Daughter products...and dished on why she loves Chrisette Michele and Harlem.
Don't you just adore them both? Shop some Carol's Daughter finds below including Chrisette Michele's faves:
Hey Glamazons! So, we've previously discussed how much my social calendar has managed to explode over the last couple of weeks (hence my need to consistently change up my makeup look with fun eyeshadow palettes and the like) but we have yet to touch on the topic of holiday beauty products. Or, maybe I should phrase those last words to say "holiday beauty products that you should be giving or getting." (Yes, I do like that verbiage much better!)
Because of the beauty blogging junkie that I am (cc: Amber Katz, the head honcho of beauty blogging junkies) I've somehow managed to amass all of these great products and press releases about fun holiday collections. And, of course, it is imperative that I share all of my faves with you as soon as possible so that you can go ahead and start purchasing. Let's start with the luxe Estee Lauder, shall we?
Never one to shy away from the most beautiful, opulent packaging out there, this season their holiday collection is all about "extravagant indulgence." In the words of my makeup loving mentor (and honorary Glamazon!) Mikki Taylor "How fabulous!"
Designed by my makeup BFF/Creative Makeup Director Tom Pecheux (Side Note: Yes, he beat my face once as evidenced above in that picture of us which gives me butterflies everytime I look at it!) each product in the line "wraps your features in alluring holiday elegance" as quoted from the press release which just so happens to be totally true!
This collection features:
-Pure Color Five Color Eyeshadow Palette in Extravagant Gold ($42)
-Pure Color Five Color Lip Palette in Extravagant ($42)
-Pure Color Long Lasting Lipstick in Extravagant Red and Extravagant Berry ($22 each)
-Pure Color Gloss in Extravagant Plum; Star Ruby; and Electric Ginger ($20 each)
-Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Extravagant Pearl and Extravagant Night ($18 each)
My personal faves?:
The Pure Color Lip Palette in Extravagant is a must-have for any cocktail clutch. The color is rich enough to be worn alone and there's a nice-sized mirror attached so you can see (and adjust) everything in one fell swoop.
The Pure Color Gloss in Star Ruby (it's the red shade on the right) has somehow turned into my everyday wear lip gloss for the month of December! I just love the sheer juiciness of the color and every time I whip it out on the train for re-application I always notice multiple curious stare from the girls seated around me. It's also the perfect shade to layer over the red lipstick you see above in Extravagant Red.
The Pure Color Nail Lacquer in Extravagant Night is the perfect shimmery/shiny shady of plum that contains loads of glitter but in a sexy, grown up kind of way. (Side note: I'm not really one for a bunch of glitter on my nails. Although I admire it on others, I just don't like it on mine for whatever reason.)
The Estee Lauder Pure Color Extravagant Collection is available for purchase now for a limited time at an E. Lauder beauty counter near you or www.esteelauder.com.
Anyone tried any products from this line yet? Or, after reading this, are you now dying to?!
OK, the holiday are officially here which means that (if you're anything like me) your social calendar is filling up fast with lots of fun holiday cocktail parties. (Which are like the best type of parties to attend if you ask me because even the most stodgiest of people finally loosen up!)
I said all this to say that it's imperative that your hair and makeup look on point. (Clothes are always a bit easier for me to handle as I just throw on an LBD.) And, I might also add, that for each and every party my look will change. Nothing too drastic but I always like to play with color on my eyes and lips to spruce up the black I'm wearing.
So, um, how amazing is this FLIRT! Limited Edition 40 Eyeshadow Set?! For about $30 you get every shade of eyeshadow underneath the rainbow to help you create the perfect holiday looks throughout the rest of the month as well as into the new year. That's me pictured above rocking my very own creation I call the seductive smokey eye. It's light enough to wear to the office and takes about two seconds to darken up before you head out into the night. What do you think?! I created this all with my very own FLIRT! Limited Edition 40 Eyeshadow Set.
And how lucky are you that I'm giving one away?! Yes, you can win your very own.
Just "like" our Facebook Fan Page and upload a picture of one of your best looking eyeshadow looks. I'll pick the one I think looks fab and this amazing eyeshadow palette will be all yours.
That's it! Now get to creating because the contest ends December 20. Good luck!
Alright, since I just shared the news that Jennifer Lopez is the newest face for L'Oreal Paris, it's only fair that I tell you all about these fab new skincare products from the brand called Youth Code.
Last week, I (along with a gaggle of other beauty bloggers) gathered downtown and sipped on signature pink cocktails to hear the news. L'Oreal's Youth Code contains four products: Serum Intense; SPF 30 Day Lotion; Day/Night Cream; and Eye Cream.
L'Oreal Paris Youth Code Serum Intense
Price: $24.99
Infused with light diffusing micro-pearls and works to immediately transform skin and restore luminosity. Leaves skin feeling smooth and hydrated.
L'Oreal Paris Youth Code SPF 30 Day Lotion
Price: $24.99
Formula is lightweight and provides UVA and UVB sun protection with SPF 30 to prevent future signs of aging. Also contains the Skin Cancer Foundation Seal of Recommendation.
L'Oreal Paris Youth Code Day/Night Cream
Price: $24.99
Contains a three-dimensional polymer with unique ability to attract moisture and form a barrier over to the skin to visibly reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well as keeping the skin radiant and hydrated.
L'Oreal Paris Youth Code Eye Cream
Price: $24.99
Infused with moisturizing honey, caffeine to reduce under eye puffiness and light diffusing micro-pearls to illuminate the eye area. Side note: At first it felt kind of awkward to use, but I think I've got the hang of it. The key is to squeeze out only a little bit of the product to your under eye area and let it kind of melt into your skin before blending with the metal applicator as the formula is thick.
L'Oreal Paris Youth Code Starter Kit
Price: $34.99
Contains:
-1 fl oz SPF 30 Day Lotion
-0.5 fl oz Day/Night Crea
-0.33 fl oz Eye Cream
Each product contains the latest developments in gene science (side note: just to give you an idea, the stuff is backed by at least 10 years of gene research..crazy, right?!) and contains a patented formula called GenActiv Technology. What's so great about that? Well, this "technology" is actually peptides that help to make the skin act faster and younger leaving you looking like you're 24 instead of say 42.
We each got a goody bag filled with these new products and talk about instant gratification! Before bed that night, I washed my face, applied the Serum, Day/Night Cream and Eye Cream. When I awoke the next morning, I looked rested and my skin was actually glowing! (The only product that really does this for my face would have to be the super pricey Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair.) Could it be that a drug store brand can make you actually make you look like you got 10 hours of sleep?! I was in shock.
And that was only after the first night. It hasn't even been a week of use yet and my skin appears smoother and definitely more luminous...love!
I then perused the fact sheet to read the clinical study results and what I have experienced thus far is right on target. Women reported that after just 1 drop of the Serum, their skin felt silky smooth and appeared deeply hydrated and luminous. After 1 week, they experienced a dramatic improvement in the skin's texture and tone and increased radiance. After 4 weeks, they noticed a diminish in the signs of aging.
Wowza! This collection won't be launching in drugstores until January 2011 (I know...I'm such a tease to get you all excited for something you can't have right this minute) but I got so excited about experiencing these instant results that I just had to share the news with you!
Definitely be sure to grab this stuff as soon as it hits shelves and let me know what you think after use!
From designing children's clothing for Kohl's to modeling for Gucci ads to creating some of the top selling fragrances of our generation is there anything that Jennifer Lopez can't do?! (Oh, wait..there is: singing. But we won't talk about that...smh.)
Although the music industry may be one spot she just can't seem to dominate, you have to give it to her: she's definitely business-saavy. I mean, how else would one gain a L'Oreal spokesperson contract?! And not just any contract, mind you: a multimillion- dollar contract.
J. Lo (a name she ditched long ago but I still like to use tee hee hee) is the newest global brand ambassador for L'Oreal Paris, which includes brands such as EverPure hair care, Preference hair color and Youth Code skin care. She joins the ranks of other celeb L'Oreal spokesmodels that include Beyonce, Eva Longoria Parker, Diane Keaton and Keri Washington.
Jennifer's debut TV ad will air Jan. 16, 2011 during the Golden Globes for EverSleek, a new range of hair products in the Ever franchise designed to smooth unruly, frizzy hair.
One of the new products from the L'Oreal EverSleek Line
According to an article in WWD, L'Oreal plans on tackling a new take on advertising by making their ads more "intimate and conversational."
Cyril Chapuy, global brand president for L'Oreal Paris, was quoted in the article as saying that the script for the new ads were written with J. Lo in mind.
"It was designed for Jennifer's personality," Cyril said. "She is the one speaking directly to the camera, there is no voice-over and she speaks in her own words."
He also went on to add that "the look of the styling and set was also defined especially for her..[which] had a very intense energy."
Hmmm...it could be that J.Lo had all these demands and the brand just rolled along with it. Or maybe I'm wrong and they really wanted to make the ads all about her? Either way, I can't wait to see them.
And this won't be the last we see of J.Lo anytime soon! She's been named one of Barbara Walters' "10 Most Fascinating People of 2010" (interview airs at 10 p.m. EST, Dec. 9 on ABC) and has plans to launch a new album in 2011 called "Love."
Hey, you gotta respect this woman's hustle, right?! Who else is excited to see her new ads?
Happy Friday! And what better way to start off your weekend than with this fab new cosmetic giveaway that I have for you?! That's right, none.
You know, I'm going to be honest with you: when I slaved away at The Magazine many moons ago, I would see products from Physicians Formula and feature them on my beauty pages all the time without ever actually having used it. I know, a serious sham! I have no clue as to why I did this, but I can honestly say that their products are very pretty and look fab on a page.
However, this has absolutely nothing to do with you so I'll shut up now and get to the point.
Physicians Formula has a collection of new eyeshadows out called Shimmer Strips Eye Candy Collection ($10.95 each). Each set of shadows contains about 9 shades that you can use either wet (i.e. instant eyeliner!) or dry to create pretty looks for your eyes! And (as if it couldn't get any better) each of the four sets were created to accent your natural eye color which makes it super easy to shop for at the store: Green Eye Candy; Brown Eye Candy; Hazel Eye Candy; and Blue Eye Candy. (Since I've always wanted hazel eyes, I figured that I should probably use that eye palette first and it's quickly become one of my faves! It's pictured above and below are the other shades.)
Blue Eye Candy
Green Eye Candy
Brown Eye Candy
In addition, the brand has a glam new pearlescent mineral blush powder fittingly called Mineral Glow Pearls Blush. It looks beautiful in the package, but even MORE so when you put it on! Just one swipe across each cheekbone is all you need to create an instant glow. OH and it's also good for you because it contains real mineral pearl extract - an anti-oxidant property that helps protect skin from free radicals while blurring fine lines. (And, I don't know about you, but I need all the protection I can get from the grossness floating around in this city! Yuck.) The Mineral Glow Pearls Blush ($10.95 each) comes in two shades: Rose Pearl and Natural Pearl.
Rose Pearl
All of these products look amazing on all skin tones. I mentioned that I'm totally giving you all of this stuff for FREE, right?! This is well over $60 worth of makeup that you can win. All you have to do is write a comment below telling me what your favorite drugstore makeup brand is and why. That's it! (Brownie points to those who actually say Physicians Formula and give a really good reason as to why...not that I'm saying those who do say this will win, but it will sure help you out!)
Alright, so get to commenting because who doesn't want FREE makeup?!
Hey Glamazons! Ugh. To say that I'm exhausted is a serious understatement. I know, I know, I've been saying that a lot lately...but it's true! A woman needs some sleep!
However, before I hit the hay, I must get your opinion on this hair 'do Alicia Keys is rocking.
Can anyone explain to me exactly what this even is?! I mean, as you know, I'm all about a pretty updo but this is..ahem...kind of out there. Of course, Alicia looks gorge (as always) but I wonder what exactly her inspiration was for creating this look.
Does anyone else want to copy it?! Let's talk about it in the comments section below.
Did you ever think you'd see the day when you could say "Restaurants" out loud and a list of restaurants in your vicinity would pop up on your car screen? How about a time when you could say "Beyonce" and similar music would start playing on your radio?
Welcome to 2011, ladies and gentlemen, the year of our newest obsession: the 2011 Ford Edge. Thanks to the innovative My Touch Technology, you can now interact with your vehicle, and it obeys! Yes glamazons, tell the Ford Edge what you want and boom, it provides. Wish men would act that way!
Ferocia and I had the pleasure of test driving the car in Atlanta at the 2011 Ford Edge Media Ride and Drive event.
We initially loved the look and drive of the vehicle which looks like an SUV but gives a smooth, comfortable and fast ride. But the My Touch technology won us over.
We were amazed at how convenient and easy it is to use. You can handle everything in the car one of three ways: through the touch screen, the controls on the wheels or the sound of your voice!
Touch Screen
The 8 inch LC touch screen is tailored to a fab lifestyle with sections for phone, navigation, climate and entertainment (what more do you need?).
Controls on Steering Wheel
And if you're guilty of paying attention to the screen and not the road (I am!), all the controls are on the steering wheel, which totally saves you from fumbling for your ipod and phone.
The Sound of Your Voice
If you don't feel like touching at all, just voice a command and the My Touch technology will make it happen. Trust us, we tried it in Atlanta and it totally worked.
Some other amazing features?
Media Hub
There's also a media hub where you can plug in your laptop and ipod and write, blog, catch up on the latest news or just surf the web. Yeah, it's like they had me in mind when they built this car.
Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert
There's a feature that helps detect vehicles in your blind spot and traffic approaching from the side when you're pulling out of a parking space. How's that for safe?
My-Key
Parents will like this. Scared to death when your teen takes your Ford Edge out for a drive? You can designate a key for your teen that can limit the car's top speed and audio volume, making speeding and blasting music impossible.
Check out video at the Ford Edge Media Ride and Drive event featuring The Glamazons and journalists from Bossip.com, Uptown Magazine and more:
