Paris Couture Report

In the fashion world, there's nothing more fantastical, romantic and awe-inspiring than haute couture collections! For the fashion beginner, ready-to-wear is where designers make their profit but haute couture is where couturiers dare to dream.

In honor of my upcoming trip to the City of Lights, (woohoo! expect lots of pics and shopping excursions), I'm bringing you some of my favorite looks from Paris Haute Couture week.

An unapologetic tribute to excess and spectacle in a limited economy: sequins, fur, white, black lace, dramatic hats, wedding gowns...and the racy reinvention of the suit!

Chanel

Christian Dior

Elie Saab

Giorgio Armani Prive

Givenchy

Jean Paul Gaultier

Valentino

What do you think of the couture collections? Which look is your favorite?

Kisses,

Coutura

Matte On

Matte nails are going to be one of the hottest nail trends for fall and Essie makes it super easy for you to get the look with the introduction of the Matte About You Matte Finisher. It takes all of the luster out of your nail polish in one swipe without the use of a top coat. The best part is that it works on ALL nail polish shades whether they be sheer light or deep dark. (Believe me, I was up late last night swiping on various nail shades just to see if it worked and it did! I squealed in excitement and tried to share the joy of this new beauty find with my roomie who never revels in my beauty product treasures hahaha)
Matte About You Matte Finisher ($10) will be available beginning August 2009 at essie.com, fine spas, salons and beauty destinations nationwide.
So be sure to snag one and getcho matte on!

Temptu Launches At Home AIRbrush Makeup System

Yes, you read correctly: you will be able to airbrush yourself in the privacy of your own home. (Or anywhere else, for that matter!)
If you've never heard of Temptu, that's ok because you've definitely seen their work. (Remember the full bodied blue look worn by actress Rebecca Romijn in the X Men movies? Yeah, that's Temptu's Dura makeup!)
Used primarily by professional makeup artists for film, television and fashion, the brand is now spreading the airbrush love to everyone .
I recently met with Ava Scanlan, Director of Public Relations & West Coast Operations, who showed me how it works.
Known as the Temptu AIRbrush Makeup System and AIR pod makeup, it's actually a makeup system designed for at-home and everyday use. I admit that I was slightly skeptical about the whole thing because I definitely don't want to walk around on a daily basis looking like I'm wearing tons of makeup. But the great thing about it is that you can put on as little (or as much) as you want! Just pop an AIR pod into the AIRbrush, plug in the Air Compressor and get to spraying. There is an adjustable knob on the Air Compressor so you can control how much (or little) makeup that you apply. Genius, I tell you!
And if you want a tutorial of your own, Sephora beauty experts will be offering in-store AIRbrush product training for consumers. These products will be available on August 1, 2009 online at sephora.com and in 100 Sephora stores nationwide on September 15, 2009.
Here's a quick breakdown of products:

-The AIRbrush
A unique hybrid trigger for complete control that fits comfortably in your hand. Very lightweight for easy handling and completely hygenic.
-The Air Compressor (located below the AIRbrush)
Has adjustable air pressure and is lightweight for easy handling and portability. Works worldwide with a universal adapter.
PRICE: $225
*Also comes with a user guide, how-to DVD and a one year warranty

-AIR pod Foundation
Applied with the Airbrush Makeup System. Easy to use, mistake proof and hygenic. Contains a smoothing complex to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, color-correcting pigments to camouflage imperfections and moisturizers to help hydrate the skin. Gives the look of perfect skin!
PRICE: $55 for 2 AIR pods
*Worth 2 months of application; comes in 12 shades ranging from Porcelain (lightest) to Espresso (darkest)

-AIR pod Blush
Highly pigmented yet subtle formula goes on sheer and applies seamlessly into the skin for dewy color that lasts all day.
PRICE: $30 each
*Worth 2 months of application; comes in 4 shades ranging from Pale Pink (lightest shade) to Sheer Berry (darkest shade)

-AIR pod Highlighter
These universally flattering hues provide a luminous, healthy glow to your complexion. Blends seamlessly to provide all-over color as well as subtle accents and sheer contouring.
PRICE: $35 each
*Worth 2 months application; comes in 4 shades ranging from Champagne (lightest shade) to Copper (darkest shade)

-Retouch
Airbrush-quality formulas and high-definition results anytime, anywhere. Dispenses just the right amount of product for the perfect application every time. Water-enriched silicone formula contains Ceramide 3 and an olive oil vehicle which nourishes and protects the skin. Vitamins C&E provide anti-oxidant protection. Dermatologist approved; hypoallergenic.
Comes in Foundation ($47 each); Blush ($35 each); Highlighter ($40 each); and Powder ($43 each).

Ok beauty mavens, how many of you plan on purchasing this? Let me know what you think as soon as you do.
Happy spraying!

Full-Figured and Fabulous! Beth Ditto for Evans

Hey Glamazons,

Are you tired of designers that make drab, unflattering clothes for plus-size women? As if by virtue of being full-figured, women lose all sense of style and have to settle for whatever dull clothes come in their sizes? Beth Ditto and I are too.

The flamboyant star has rocked the plus-size clothing industry with a haute collection for UK store Evans. One of the first celebrity/mass retailer collaborations for full-figured shoppers, Beth Ditto's collection delivers her signature glam rock style to women sizes 14-32 for moderate prices. The punk rock/80's-inspired designs range from printed high-waisted leggings to bright sequined dresses to cropped leather jackets replete with zippers and studs (see Glamazon faves below). American shoppers can purchase the clothing on the web---www.evans.co.uk---and have it shipped to the U.S. What do you think of the collection? What's your fave Beth Ditto at Evans look? Why aren't more celebs/designers tapping into the plus-size market?

Would You Wear...Sasha Fierce?

Hey Glamazons,

So while Rihanna is partying in pasties and Amber Rose is walking under paint...

...Beyonce is thinking of unique ways to capitalize on her split personality. Introducing Sasha Fierce: a Junior's line of sportswear, outerwear, handbags, footwear, eyewear, lingerie and jewelry that's as fresh, daring and full of attitude as Beyonce's alter ego via WWD. Similar to Bey's personal sense of style, Sasha Fierce lets the accessories be the headliner. With chains, lace, mesh, and studs, the accents feel as if they're straight out of the Diva video. (Let me specify: Diva when she's walking in front of an exploding car at the end...more confident, cool Beyonce than the stripper meets pageant queen looks she wears inside the wearhouse.) The supporting cast is the clothing, which is decidedly understated and trendy. Think distressed jeans, leggings, faux leather, black dresses and bodysuits.

Just in time for back-to-school shopping, Sasha Fierce hits Macy's, Dillard's, Jimmy Jazz and Against All Odds this Fall. And teens, you won't spend all your allowance either---the line ranges from $25-$75. What do you think of the line? The last look is calling my name (similar shoes came in the office today from Dereon---I won't sleep until I have them!). Would you wear Sasha Fierce?

Still not enough of your favorite diva? Then check out her Sweet Dreams video below. Not my favorite (haven't we seen this before?) but I'll pretend to like it so her fans don't come running after me. Yay for blonde fingerwaves! ::shudders::
