New York Fashion Week: Marc Jacobs Spring 2011

If I could choose a decade to fashionably transport myself to, it'd be the magical era of the '70s. The Summer of Love was full of flamboyant, free-spirited bliss with wild, voluminous hair, sweeping maxidresses and energetic prints. Marc Jacobs gave this glorious decade a new-age flair with an aesthetic as sophisticated as it was enticing.

His makeover of seventies fashion started with the materials: Style.com cites gauzes, voiles and etamines as his fabrics of choice. The look of the collection follows suit.

Colors are explosive, energetic and vivid with oranges, pinks, purples and browns taking centerstage. While he shows platforms, these just aren't any sandals---Marc Jacobs' platforms are glittery and gold. His accessories run the gamut from exquisite floral hairpieces and elaborate necklaces to streamlined handbags and bright wide-brimmed hats.

The sophistication emerges in tailored khaki or satin jumpsuits, wideleg pants and trench coats that blend the structured silhouettes and cinched waists of the '40s with the free-spirited air of the '70s.

Prints varied from '70's dots to Missoni-esque zig-zag patterns to stripes (with circle-pattern pasties around the bust!). Talk about fun with fashion. Flutter sleeves, wide floral belts and glorious sheer maxidresses also work to give this collection pizazz and personality.

Bringing the '70s into the 21st century, metallic shorts and stripes add a dose of decadent glamour. This is the Summer of Love dressed up and transported to a new level of refinement and class.

Take a look at the collection modeled by Jourdan Dunn, Karlie Kloss, Alessandra Ambrosio, Shena Moulton, Joan Smalls, Anais Mali, Rose Cordero, Jeneil Williams and more.

(Last) Week In Review: Pat McGrath, Idris Elba, The Dream and Victoria's Secret Models

Hey Glamazons! Whew, June has definitely been a whirl of social events for me..and don't think that I'm complaining...I live for it! Last week proved to be a fun one! Here's the Cliff's Notes version of everything:

The fabulous Pat McGrath (makeup artist extraordinaire and one of the main creative brains behind P&G Cosmetics) recently launched a collection of cosmetic bags for LeSport Sac and CoverGirl threw her a cute cocktail party downtown at the LeSport Sac store. They even had a fun photo booth..which I had no problem cramming into it with friends (Sara Conley from styleitonline.com and makeup artist Lesley Forrester) to take the super goofy shots of us below. Aren't they fun?!

Pat McGrath and I strike a pose for the cameras...she's so awesome!

Our fun photo booth pics in black and white (and color, of course!)

The LeSportSac makeup bags Pat McGrath designed. Each features a fun hangtag of makeup application tips from the makeup guru herself!

Moet & Chandon launched its exclusive Rose Lounge in New York on a rooftop at the Ink 48 Hotel. Hosted by Idris Elba and The Dream, the lounge featured it's newest libation, the Moet Rose minis (so cute!) as well as a gaggle of well dressed NY women, handsome men and celebs. Oh, and of course Idris was the hottest of the all....especially when he was spinning those beats while DJing...ooooweeee!

I snapped this pic of Idris DJing at the party...he was really into it and was spinning some great tunes! Love.

Here's Idris on the red carpet...why he looks confused, I don't know..perhaps he was wishing that he could be upstairs DJing some more instead?! lol

The Rose Lounge is scheduled to appear in Atlanta, Chicago, D.C., Baltimore, Cleveland and Detroit next so be sure to check a social calendar near you for dates.

Here's what the new drink looks like....

And there's my champagne flute of the drink (it's so good!) along with a real life shot of the minis.

Victoria's Secret Beauty turned a whole floor of the The St. Regis Hotel into a beautiful oasis of pink peonies, shimmering underwear and gorgeous supermodels when announcing plans to launch the new fragrance Bombshell in September 2010.

Pretty pink peonies adorned every table..they smelled delish!

I snapped this pic of some VS Models (from r to l: Alessandra Ambrosio, Miranda Kerr and Candace Swanepoel) talking about what makes every woman a bombshell.

I've always wanted my own pair of angel wings! Don't I make a pretty angel?! lol

Marcia Caster, Fashion & Beauty Managing Editor at ESSENCE, posing with one of the mannequins at the event. Get into that outfit! Sexy grunge glam...love it!

Victoria's Secret Offers Flowers, Fragrance and Mini Makeovers

A gaggle of Victoria's Secret Angels were on hand at the Victoria's Secret store on Broadway here in New York Saturday to launch The Heavenly Flowers scent. Alessandra Ambrosio, Candace Swanepoel and Miranda Kerr signed autographs, took pictures with fans and cut flowers to hand out to moms in honor of Mother's Day. In addition, shoppers were given the opportunity to get mini makeovers.

The Heavenly Flowers scent is a floral-fruity green fragrance with top notes of Juicy Mandarin Watermelon Sorbet, Sparkling Pear and Guava; middle notes of Blooming Gardenia, Lily of the Valley, Apricot Flower, Peony and Violet Leaf; and a dry-down of Creamy Musk and Blonde Wood. Super juicy and extra pretty. The Eau De Parfum ($49) also comes in a Sheer Fragrance Mist ($22) Softening Body Lotion ($20) and a Solid Fragrance Bracelet ($20). The limited edition fragrance will be available for purchase through June 2010.
I was actually given the opportunity to have a little Q&A sesh with the Angels. Here's what they had to say:

Ferocia: What are some of the beauty products that you can't live without during the summer?
Alessandra: I love Victoria's Secret Daily Glow Gradual Tan Moisturizer SPF 15. It gives my skin a pretty glow and I stay protected from the sun.
Candice: I really love wavy hair. Victoria's Secret So Sexy Wave Enhancer is perfect to spritz on at the beach.
Miranda: I love bright red lipstick right now, like VS Makeup Matte Cream Lipstick in Icon.

Ferocia: What's one tip that you would offer to the everyday woman to do to make her feel fabulous?
Alessandra: Smoky eyes make you feel both sexy and fabulous!
Candice: Layering the perfect scent with lotion and spritzing the fragrance on top.
Miranda: I love when my hair is pulled back from my face into a simple ponytail.

Beauty editors and bloggers alike were also given makeovers (in a fabulous VIP section) by two of the artists from the VS Makeup Supermodel Team with products from the Fall 2010 collection, including the VS Makeup Fall Face Kit Collection. The Fall Face Kits are designed for three skin tones: light, medium and deep. Each kit includes 3 eye shadows, an eye liner, mascara and lip gloss along with detailed instructions imprinted on the inside on how you can achieve the look. Priced at $28, it will be available for purchase August-October 2010 and is so new that I don't even have the product in final packaging. However, I will definitely test it out and will let you know what I think. Just from its looks, it seems like a pretty good deal!

Here's my friend April Franzino (beauty assistant at Good Housekeeping) about to get her makeup done at the event. Love her!

FIRST LOOK: Secret Moments by Victoria's Secret Beauty

When it comes to some of my favorite memories I definitely have scent association. I may be as blind as a bat (thank God for contacts because without them I see nothing!) but most everything that I remember is associated with some type of sound or, most importantly, a scent.
Well, the lovely ladies at VS Beauty (including super model Alessandra Ambrosio, who's the face for this new collection) also think the same and will be launching a new line of fragrant body care based solely on some of their favorite memories. Here's the scoop on the new scents:

Girls' Scent
-An electric, flirty scent infused with Pink Peony and Waterlily
Island Escape
-Inspired by the crystal blue waters of the ocean, this scent is a breath of fresh ocean air mixed with beachy Coconut and Sugarcane
At First Sight
-A pretty mix of Violet and Bergamot
Side note: At the event, Alessandra shared that she helped to create this scent based off of the first time that she saw her daughter after giving birth. Too sweet!
Room 504
-A sexy, sultry scent infused with Amber and Passionfruit
Side note: One of the VS Beauty execs shared at the event that the reason she helped to create this scent was to capture the moment that her fiance proposed to her. She met this guy and (although it as a long distance thing) they did everything in their power to see each other as often as possible. One weekend they met up and there at the hotel in room 504, he proposed! Ugh. The romanticism of it all gives me major swoonage.
Good Day Sunshine
-Happiness personified; an uber pretty mix of peach and blue freesia, it's the perfect pick me up for a dreary day.

Each scent comes in a Sheer Fragrance Mist ($12); Daily Moisture Body Lotion ($10); Nourishing Body Cream ($12); and Daily Body Wash ($10).

My favorite? Why Girls' Night of course! Be sure to check 'em out at your local Victoria's Secret next month (April 2010) and let us know which ones you like.

MAGAZINE GLAM: Models on the Cover of Glamour Magazine! (And One Has Curves)

This just in.

For the first time since 2006, Glamour Magazine will feature models on their cover for the June Swimsuit issue.

And not just any models: Brooklyn Decker, Alessandra Ambrosio and Crystal Renn. Crystal Renn being, as you know from V Magazine's Size issue, one of the best curvy models in the business.

The ladies tweeted these pictures from their shoot in St. Bart's. Gorgeous!

I'm so excited for the new cover, shot by Matthias Vriens-McGrath, and for Glamour's decision to embrace models (so tired of celebrity mag covers) and curves!

Of course, not everyone is as excited as I am. ABC News said, model Alessandra Ambrosio bears a "closer resemblance to a pre-pubescent teenager than a 29-year-old mother" via WWD. Ouch!

Ambrosio, pictured above, countered by raising an interesting point that the media "should be more responsible while covering the model size debate." I agree. Because shouldn't sensitivity toward size go both ways (for plus-size models and thin models)?

Ambrosio told WWD: "If I'm two pounds heavier, I'm fat. If I'm skinnier, I'm sick. It's ridiculous." It has to be hard for a model to endure constant criticism of her weight, whether thin or curvy.

I think a healthy body weight is ideal, and we, as media, should promote 'healthiness' in a tactful, socially responsible way. In other words, we don't have to attack thin models to embrace plus-size models.

What are your thoughts? And are you excited for the new Glamour cover?

Kisses,

Coutura
