Jean Paul Gaultier's Kissing Ad Starring Androgynous Model, Andrej Pejic
With the buzz surrounding Elton John's current People Magazine cover with his husband, David Furnish, and child, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, it's safe to assume that gay couples in editorial garner a lot of attention. Jean Paul Gaultier is hoping the same is true for high-fashion advertisements.
Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, his Spring 2011 ad features what appears to be two blonde women kissing. Upon closer inspection, you learn that it's actually model Karolina Kurkova and androgynous model Andrej Pejic. $5 if you can pick who is who. Joking, I need my money for shoes.
Anyway, ever since the blond-haired man with girlish good looks appeared in Paris Fashion Week in 2010, Pejic has been making waves as the face of androgyny. Fashion greats Steven Meisel, Marc Jacobs and of course, Jean Paul Gaultier have all featured the Serbian Austrian model in their campaigns and on the runway.
Jean Paul Gaultier's advertisement will really play with people's opinion toward gays and lesbians, as it gives the illusion of homosexual affection, but really features a man and a woman.
What do you think of the ad? And Andrej Pejic?
Kisses,
