The original fashion rebel Kelis is back with a hit dance record, "Acapella," an album, Flesh Tone, and tons more eccentric fashion looks.
The latest video shows the R&B singer in full Avatar mode: tribal garb with feathers, bright beaded necklaces, embellished corsets, body artwork and even bows and arrows. We also see Kelis showing off her bikini bod, gold painted skin and Statue of Liberty headband (yes, it makes a return) in a lair fit for a Queen. Another scene shows Kelis in a galaxy full of crystal studs in a black embroidered jumpsuit.
The visuals, which include bold fuschia lips while the rest of the frame is black-and-white, are pretty fascinating. And the makeup is just stunning but I have to admit I'm not a fan of the gray braided hairstyle. It's just not becoming on her and makes her look old (my opinion).
Nevertheless, this video is fresh and futuristic both visually and sonically. And the best part? Her and Nas' son, Knight, makes his first cameo at the end of the video. I love a rockstar Mom!

Erykah Badu is truly an icon. For her latest video, she ditched the eccentric clothes, the famous afro, even the Rick James-inspired style she rocked last week on the Wendy Williams show, for a raw, naked look. Yes, naked as in butterball, butt naked. Click here to see the video.
The neo-soul icon gave the ultimate artistic expression when she walked confidently down the Dallas street where JFK was assassinated, disrobing with every step. By the end, as Erykah stands naked in broad daylight surrounded by unsuspecting passersby, a shot rings out, her head snaps and she falls to her death, with blue blood flowing from her that reads "Group Think." Whoa.
The concept is so deep and freeing. I emphatically applaud her. It's open to interpretation, but my take is that it isn't pure nudity, or sexuality like we've seen in previous videos (i.e. Lady Gaga's nudity in Telephone). As Erykah disrobes, she's shedding her "group mentality" and freeing her body and also, her mind and spirit. She's boldly and fearlessly expressing her individuality and defying the group's way of thinking, mirroring what JFK did as President. Many believe he was assassinated for his unique, bold ideology and so too, was Erykah, once she was completely free and naked at the end of the video. It's art, people. The video is loaded with meaning.
It fits with the lyrics of the song as she sings that she is searching for a "place to fly, a place to cry" alone with "no one next to" her. I get that concept. I always take the Window Seat on planes for that reason. To be in my head, free from distractions and opinions and judgments, and to just be at peace with me. It is an empowering, peaceful place, alone, staring into the sky---and it's all the more commendable that Erykah was able to find that place of individualism and emotional nakedness surrounded by people. I wish I could be that free (figuratively, not literally. So don't worry, no naked strolls down Times Square in my future).
Of course, that concept, which is substantiated by Erykah's recent tweets (@fatbellybella), flies above people's heads. But she could care less. And of course, most people are harboring over the fact that she has a great butt. Which flatters her (she's retweeted several comments about it) but they're also missing the point. And again, she could care less.
The booty scene isn't merely powerful because she's got amazing curves, but because it marks the first time she is truly defying social decorum, by walking down the street in her undies. The power isn't just in her shape, but in her body language. She's not ashamed, or sexualized, which are the two ways women appear when they are nude in public. She's confident, brave and at peace. She's in her world, strutting proudly and freely like a Queen, while in regular black panties and in the midst of everyday folk who scream that she's insane.
I don't plan on disrobing down a Dallas street, but I live for artistic expression and commend Erykah's. While points about traumatized children are valid, I think criticism that she's "stripping" to sell records reduce her beautiful video and profound concept. Erykah is, and always has been, much more than sex.

This video gave me life. Directed by Lady Gaga and Jonas Akerlund, it was full of surprises: catfights in the yard, a diner full of Bey and Gaga's poisoned victims (hey, you have to kill your no-good boyfriend, Tyrese, AND the witnesses...love it!), a lesbian kiss, dance sequences in bikinis, Gaga's body parts and a glorious getaway in the Pussy Wagon.
And even with all that, the very best part of the video is Bey's bad word. Can you believe Lady Gaga got Beyonce (whom she affectionately calls 'Honey Bee') to curse? Even Bey was surprised at herself. I love it!
Check out the highly-anticipated 10-minute mini-movie below and tell me what you think! Naysayers say Bad Romance is better, or that the video is too violent, too lewd (i.e. lesbianism), etc.
My two cents: It's some kind of wonderful. Gaga is revolutionizing the current drab state of videos, the same way she did fashion. And I love her for it.

The oddly brilliant style star has done it again with her upcoming video, Telephone, featuring Beyonce and debuting this Thursday, March 11th.
Gaga's inventive, radical approach to style is truly one-of-a-kind. She's odd, daring and brilliant in her fashion and beauty choices---which is exactly what safe style stars need to jolt them back to creativity.
Take a look at her ubercreative, innovative and otherworldly looks for the Telephone video (I wish I could rock the soda can roller look walking around in the Village...it's brilliant!). Whoever believes fashion isn't art needs to spend a day in Lady Gaga's closet! Oh god, I could dress up in her clothes all day.

It seems Rihanna and Beyonce left the Grammy's and headed straight back to work (do these girls ever really break?!). Both pop stars are gearing up for the release of videos for their latest singles: Rihanna's "Rude Boy" and Alicia Keys' "Put it in a Love Song" featuring Beyonce.
We can always expect some spectacular fashion in pop music videos to keep our eyes glued to the screen. While Rihanna takes a less high-end, more Jamaican street vibe in her "Rude Boy" video (she's giving me Eastern Parkway and I'm not mad about it), Alicia Keys plays dress up in Brazil in a gorgeous Boxing Kitten outfit and bold yellow sandals.
I LOVE the new look on Alicia; the vibrant colors are the perfect accent to the favelas in Brazil (Somebody take me there...tomorrow). Boxing Kittentweeted that Alicia is wearing the Billie top and Althea skirt.

I am obsessed with Janet's new single and vid, Make Me, off her Number Ones album. The black and white video is the perfect blend of retro and modern with it's signature Janet-esque dance sequences and funky interpretation of beauty and fashion trends.
Janet's Todd Lynn metallic shoulder pads, her dancer's worker boots, her amazing, silver dangling earrings, her pompadour hairstyle and dark lips = the stuff of fashion/beauty legend. And I can't wait to learn every dance move.

The internet is abuzz with praise and criticism for the latest video from pop Queen, Beyonce, featuring the incredible Lady Gaga. While we're still partial to Lady Gaga's amazing Bad Romance vid, we adore Beyonce's outfit changes, the dance sequence and both ladies' phenomenal physiques. Hubba Hubba, indeed.
Still, there's been a lot of flack about the video, which only leaked yesterday night. Among the many complaints, here were a few that stood out:
-Lady Gaga isn't "herself," in the video but a white version of Beyonce. With one line, one outfit and one scene, why is she even there?
-Beyonce's in-your-face, sex-soaked moves are plain trashy, cheap and reminiscent of "Check on It." (Someone even said: Strippers should sue for copyright infringement). Even more say it's irresponsible to her younger fans.
Who else besides Lady Gaga can be glamorous, romantic, dark, futuristic and sexy all in the same video?

Newly crowned Glamazon of the 21st century, Lady Gaga, debuted a mesmerizing video for her 'Bad Romance' single with dance sequences, visuals and special effects that are out of this world!!
But let's talk about the fashions. First, bear witness to the first time any celeb has worn Alexander McQueen's Spring 2010 shoes. Yes, those shoes that look impossible to walk in (more on that later). Lady Gaga danced in them!
AND the fur coat and Carrera Championshades she wore (below) are a fashionista's dream---that only retail for only $120 at Solstice Sunglass boutiques. Fabulous!
