To say Brian Lichtenberg is an innovative designer is a gross understatement. A favorite of Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna and Kim Kardashian, he's been known to send hairy boots, plastic shoulderpieces and a Gremlin skirt down the runway. Oh yeah and that Caution yellow tape bodysuit that Lady Gaga wore in the Telephone video? That was all him.
The Los Angeles-based designer is bringing his otherworldy aesthetic to one of the most down-to-earth retail chains out there, Forever 21.
Don't expect any Brian Lichtenberg geometric printed one-shoulder dresses like Kim Kardashian'sor patchwork tights like Lady Gaga's at Forever 21 stores, though (see both below). The first designer collaboration ever for the company, Brian Lichtenberg for Forever 21 will consist of a line of graphic t-shirts.
Are you as disappointed as I am that we won't be able to walk out of the mall wearing this?
I can only pray one of the t-shirts have a picture of the Gremlin on it, in homage to Lichtenberg's glamazing Gremlin skirt, that lives in Gaga's personal closet, and retails for $2,100 (on model farthest to your left). Now, that's true 80's Fashion.
Kidding! The t-shirts will probably look more like Rihanna and Cassie's Brian Lichtenberg tanks.
Fab. What do you think of Forever 21's first collaboration? Are you looking forward to it?
Put Zoe Saldana in a brown paper bag and she'll look beautiful. The It Girl actress has appeared on several magazines this month like Glamour and ESSENCE in everything from a sparkly minidress to a metallic tank. And she's looked gorg on every cover.
NYLON Magazine's April cover is no exception, and yet people have been tearing the cover apart. The funniest complaint is that it looks like an Urban Outfitters ad. I agree but there is something charming about Zoe in a casual, unfussy moment.
What do you think? Is it an Urban Outfitters knockoff? Is it a refreshing look for Zoe? Give your verdict: Glam or a Sham.
Sidenote: say what you want about the cover, but this article may be my favorite. Check out excerpts and go to Nylonmag.com for more.
On learning dance as a child: “That was the beginning of a beautiful fucking romance. That was my Xanax, let me tell you… it put all my demons in order.” On Hollywood casting: “When they say ‘We want to go white,’ they have a very smooth way of saying it, and the recent one is the word traditional. [I’ve heard] ‘Oh, you know, you’re just not what we were looking for, your skin is a little darker.’ Compared to what?! My skin is just my skin. It’s dark if you compare it to someone who’s lighter.”
On meeting James Cameron: “I’m thinking he probably imagined some Amazonian girl [for Neytiri] – I had really long hair at the time – wearing really little shit with like, a bow and arrow. I had no idea she was blue and nine feet tall. But for some reason, he was like, ‘You look so much like her!’”
We're scratching our heads too, Lindsay. Why? Because a rumor has hit the internet that you have moved from designing poorly for Emanuel Ungaro to penning a handbag line for Ed Hardy.
Lindsay Lohan's design skills are questionable, to put it nicely (though in all fairness, she makes decent leggings). But that's not even the biggest problem here. What's worse is that Ed Hardy is just so six years ago. Kind of like the heart sequined pasties Lindsay sent down the Emanuel Ungaro runway. Dated.
While the thought of the three handbag collections they've threatened to design scares me, Ed Hardy and Lindsay Lohan are a perfect match---a match made in Fashion Hell---but a match nonetheless.
And seriously, I don't hate the girl. Actually, I agree with Micah Jessein that she needs help and a genuine support group around her. But can't she just stick to acting?
What do you think of the collaboration? Am I being harsh? Are you excited for the new handbag line?
In light of the sad news that Sandra Bullock's husband James James is under the gun for allegedly having an affair with tattoo model Michelle "Bombshell" McGee, I couldn't help but wonder what exactly it could be that James would find attractive about McGee. This is just my personal opinion, but people with tattoos all over their face and body just don't look good to me. Especially if they're on a female. Ew. But, before you roast me, I DO appreciate one here and there (even one on the face). Check out some of my favorite tattooed celebrities below. Which ones are your faves? Do you think that tattoos all over your body are attractive? If so, please explain.
xo
Ferocia
I think Amy Winehouse would look weird WITHOUT tattoos. I mean, she's so trashy. I just love her, though!
Rihanna always has a new tattoo. I know everyone thought this was a rather violent one (I mean, why would you get a gun put on you?!) but it's so tiny that it's almost cute wouldn't you say?
Meghan Fox could make a paper sack look hot.
Yes, she may have been on one of the worst reality television shows in history (For The Love of Ray J) but I thought Danger's tattooed face was kinda cute.
I think right after I saw this tattoo on Britney Spears' back, I also started to notice that every other girl in America has one too; and I actually thought it was cute! Surprise, surprise.
Angelina Jolie is just hot. Period. Whatever she has on her always looks amazing. (Once again, just my personal opinion hahaha)
AND (because if ONE Kardashian is in the news, the other two must follow suit): Khloe, Kourtney and Kim will all be the face of the skincare line PerfectSkin.
Although there are no actual products that have been launched officially in the line to the public, Kim Kardashian swears that they are the only skincare products that she uses and nothing else has come even remotely close to being as effective. According to a statement released by Dr. Ron DiSalvo, Senior Scientist at Perfect Skin Labs, the skincare system is perfect for all three of the women (despite their different skin types). The line will make its debut this spring and (if you follow Kim Kardashian's tweets like I do) I'm sure that a recent shoot she tweeted about with her sisters could have been for this. But, then again, she does have a crazy schedule and who knows what she's up to. So maybe I'm jumping to conclusions in assuming that's what it was for.
I vote that the Kardashians just create their own skincare line. If they did, would you buy their products? I would! =)
She may be scary and a tad violent, but there's no denying Naomi Campbell's skill as a supermodel. She is one of the most beautiful, talented models in the business with the lasting career to prove it. How many models can you name that started modeling with Naomi and still give young beauties a run for their money?
Naomi Campbell shows why she is the top black supermodel in her latest spread and cover for April Vogue Russia. Shot by Sølve Sundsbø and styled by Simon Robins, the spread features Naomi in barely-there black and white looks from designers like Jean Paul Gaultier and Dolce & Gabbana. And well, she looks incredible. Check out the shots below:
Stunning Sudanese supermodel, Alek Wek, graces the cover of the April South Africa Elle in a vivacious shot that captures her radiant beauty. Shot in South Africa by Oliviero Toscani, the cover commemorates the 14th anniversary of the magazine. Inside, Alek Wek shares the story of her triumphant journey from fleeing bullets in Sudan to gracing catwalks all around the world. The cover lines hint at more fascinating articles like the question, "Do black covers sell?" Interesting. Pick up the issue which is available on newsstands now nationwide.
Hey Glamazons! This just in: My fave Kardashian (Kim...duh!) has broken up (again) with football pro Reggie Bush. According to a recent post on eonline.com, the couple has called it quits due to Kim's crazy busy schedule. Apparently Reggie can't hand Kim's crazy new life.
The saavy celeb is currently in Miami with her sisters filming Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami while Reggie has been spotted out and about in NYC.
As handsome as Reggie is (what woman wouldn't date him?!), I was actually rooting for this young couple. I mean, I can only imagine how hard it is to maintain a real relationship in celebrity land. It's hard enough for ME to maintain a love life and I consider myself to be quite fabulous (even if Perez Hilton wouldn't know who I was if we ran into each other at Starbucks hahaha).
What do you think Glamazons? Do you believe that the couple will get back together? SHOULD they get back together? And, if so, what tips would you give to them to make it work?
Partying with Janet Jackson! Catching the movie with Maya Angelou! Sitting near Cicely Tyson! I've had quite the night, Glamazons, due to the star-studded Why Did I Get Married Too premiere that took place in NYC yesterday.
Despite the dreary, rainy NYC weather, the glitterati came out in sequined and sheer frocks, crisp suits, blazers and fitted caps (yes, Tyler Perry wore a blue Yankee cap and I love him for it) to celebrate the film. I wore a military jacket, my Jimmy Choo for H&M necklace, a black ruffled dress, a chain Chanel purse and leopard print boots. Fierce!
Here's me in the cab with the glamazing Jeannine Amber, who works at ESSENCE Magazine. Sidenote: I died inside when she, and another editor who I admire, said they thought I was a great writer! So sweet =)
When I arrived, I was pleased to learn I was sitting in the forth row, next to my girlfriend, Candice Frederick, who has a fab movie blog you have to check out, Reel Talk. Click the link for an awesome review she did of the film.
Here's a shot of Tyler speaking before the film from my seat.
I was honored to be in a room with such legends as Maya Angelou, Cicely Tyson and Janet Jackson, as well as luminaries like Al Sharpton, Tasha Smith, Sharon Leal, Malik Yoba, Lamman Rucker, Gayle King, Jessica White, Lynn Whitfield, Blind Side actor, Quentin Aaron, Ashford and Simpson, Fabolous, Ice-T and Coco and more. And everyone looked ravishing! Here are pics from the red carpet:
Love the Yankee cap and blazer look on Tyler! P.S. His journey from homeless man to one-man empire is an endless source of inspiration for me.
Janet Jackson brought along her sister, Rebbie, to see what is arguably her best acting performance to date!
Is it me or does Jill Scott look glamazing?! Her dress accentuated her curves perfectly. And I live for that hair and told her as much at the afterparty.
Tasha Smith wore a red sequined one-shoulder number that was everything! She steals every scene she's in, and looks even more beautiful in person (what is her fitness plan? I need it for Spring)
The legendary Cicely Tyson was amazing in the film. So honored to be in her presence!
The boys of the film, Malik Yoba, Richard T. Jones and Richard Jai White plus producer Roger Bobb
Boys being boys! Lamman Rucker and Richard T. Jones joking around on the red carpet
The legendary Ashford and Simpson showed up in all their black and leopard print glory
Lamman Rucker. Yum.
The gorgeous Sharon Leal in a lovely nude, sheer and embroidered one-shoulder frock.
Jessica White, what is this? Did you get out of bed and go straight to the premiere? And get your lingerie ripped in a cat fight on the way? I cannot.
The lovely Gayle King.
Fabolous made an appearance on the red carpet.
Terri Vaughn showed her support. I told her at the bar how much my Dad and I love her character on the Steve Harvey show. She's a riot!
The Blind Side's Quentin Aaron meets Ice T's Coco
The movie was just as exciting as the red carpet! I won't give away too much except to say it was an emotional rollercoaster, vacillating between bouts of laughter (Tasha Smith is hilar!) and moving dramatic scenes (Janet Jackson's performance is epic!). Prepare for plenty of twists and turns, new famous faces (like Cicely Tyson!) and an event that changes all of their lives forever. Click here for a full review.
It was such a great experience to watch the film with the director, writer and producer, Tyler Perry, and the actors and actresses that starred in it. We clapped to show our appreciation for emotionally-charged scenes, hilarious lines and even Tasha Smith's amazing bikini bod.
At the afterparty at the Bowery hotel, I made sure to tell them each how proud I was of their performance. Well, everyone except Janet Jackson.
For her, I was truly starstruck. (I'm a Janet Jackson fanatic. I can do the Pleasure Principle dance with my eyes closed and The Velvet Rope is one of my fave albums of all time!) And the fact that they were playing the Jackson Five in the background made it all so surreal.
I was barely breathing when she squeezed past me in VIP, which says a lot because it's hard for me to get starstruck. (The only other people who could move me are a reincarnated Michael Jackson, Oprah and Stevie Wonder...the latter two, I already met. Does this mean I'm jaded?)
I nearly fainted when Janet agreed to pose for a picture. Unfortunately, I hesitated and was immediately bumrushed and elbowed by photogs from every direction! Sideeye. See the pic I was able to get of Janet Jackson and the Why Did I Get Married Too crew (Tasha Smith and Michael Jai White) below in the VIP section.
While sipping Chardonnay from the open bar, and going in on chocolate brownies, I chopped it up with Jill Scott, who was rocking the coolest hairstyle, Lamman Rucker, who is even finer in person and remembered me from when we met at The Magazine (This clearly made my night!) and Mikki Taylor, who chatted with me about her exciting plans following her retirement after thirty years at ESSENCE Magazine.
What a fabulous night! Be sure to check out the film when it debuts on April 2nd and comment here to tell me what you think.
If you can dance, sing and dream of joining Broadway, then this is the contest for you!
Side note: Although Coutura and I have the same dreams and often have to take a break while blogging to dance around singing to Lady GaGa, we realize that we have no official "talent" in that area so have given up on the dream of becoming Broadway stars.
Maybelline New York and CVS/Pharmacy have teamed up for the "Be Sensational and Win" contest. The winner will receive a walk-on role in the Broadway production of CHICAGO the musical; a trip for two to NY; a professional makeup artist kit from Maybelline New York and a CVS/pharmacy gift card valued at $100.
How does one enter this sensational contest? Go to besensationalandwin.com and upload a video of you performing your favorite song from CHICAGO the musical between now and April 15th. Judges will include the current star of CHICAGO, actress and singer Michelle Williams, the CHICAGO casting team and a Maybelline New York executive. (That's Williams pictured here trying to apply what looks like Maybelline's Color Sensational lipstick in Red Revival onto Mario Lopez at the kick-off event. Weird that she's even trying to do that....)
Public online voting will begin April 19-May 7, 2010. Voters can also win prizes including an all-expense paid trip to NYC, CVS/pharmacy coupons, tickets to CHICAGO the musical and a meet-and-greet with the cast and special backstage tour.
As you know, Mary J. Blige gave an awesome FREE concert yesterday in Times Square where she performed songs off of her latest album. Although Coutura and I weren't able to make it (I'm traveling and Coutura had previously scheduled engagements), we just wanted to make sure to let all of you know that you can catch Blige's performance on Degree's Facebook fan page (click here).
Also, just in case you were wondering what in the heck Blige was doing the free concert for, it's because Degree has launched a new line of products for women called Degree Natureffects.
The line includes anti-perspirants/deodorants and matching body sprays (see below for deets on the new products). The company will be sponsoring Blige's organization FFAWN.
As part of the collabo, Degree held the event "Dare to Join Forces with Nature" and invited Blige to perform.
So, be sure to get your pits in order, Glamazons! Warmer weather is finally upon us and being musty is just not cute.
